New Porsche Macan: Fully Electric, More Powerful, More Porsche

The model Macan, introduced to the market by Porsche in 2014 with goals such as increasing the company’s market share and reducing emissions. It emerged to solidify the success achieved with the Cayenne in the early stages of the SUV trend. The aim was for Macan to be an “accessible” Porsche SUV model. Ten years later, with its new generation, Macan has gained the title of Porsche’s second fully electric model, becoming more powerful, environmentally friendly, and attractive. The New Macan, sharing a design language similar to the Porsche Taycan, will be among us with brand-new technologies. Additionally, it is correct to say that this generation will have a more prominent presence in our country, as the Macan will suddenly drop from the 160% and 220% tax brackets to a 60% tax bracket upon entering Turkey. Before it envelops our surroundings, let’s take a look together at the New Macan, which I expect to be more successful than the Taycan.

We are faced with a much more charismatic design. While it used to resemble an upgraded Porsche 718, the New Macan now resembles an elevated Porsche Taycan, featuring daytime running lights with four elements, slimmed and more angular front headlights, achieving a much more modern and attractive look. The grilles on the front bumper have been moved to the sides and separated with more pronounced body-colored sections. In the Macan, where the front lighting group is designed as dual parts, the lighting units hidden inside the grilles on the bumper edges make the vehicle look more aggressive when these lights are not in use. Porsche designers, who also incorporate the central grille under the license plate, have chosen to cover the vehicle with glossy black (you can also choose body color and other options because it’s a Porsche) protectors. The New Macan has acquired a more understated, poised, and more Porsche-appropriate front face.

In the side profile, the Macan has also adopted a more aerodynamic form. With a drag coefficient of 0.25 Cd, it is significantly better than the 0.35 Cd coefficient of the previous generation, contributing to a quieter and more efficient vehicle. The New Macan, carrying the classic Porsche lines known for its rounded contours, offers an 86 mm longer wheelbase compared to its predecessor. Despite the 58 mm extension, the model still has a length shorter than 4.8 meters. With the introduction of four-wheel steering for the first time in a Porsche model, the model has a relatively narrow turning radius of 11.1 meters, which is 86 cm tighter than the old Macan. Much more agile, isn’t it?

In the rear design, Porsche incorporates a LED lighting strip and has placed the brand name beneath this illumination strip. The designers have positioned the model name below the Porsche lettering, and on the rear stops, ventilation outlets are featured on the edges. In the rear design, which includes an active spoiler, the placement of this spoiler beneath the rear window seems a bit peculiar. The black section beneath the rear bumper is also designed with simple and straight lines. The underside of the vehicle is entirely flat, designed to reduce the coefficient of drag.

The New Macan, with Taycan influences in its interior, distinguishes itself with features such as physical shortcut buttons and the physical control of ventilation. Offering numerous customization options, the Macan is equipped with a 12.6-inch digital instrument panel and a 10.9-inch multimedia screen. The interior of the New Macan, which mirrors the central screen in front of the front passenger, is made from more environmentally friendly materials. The head-up display with augmented reality feature is introduced for the first time in a Porsche model, and the vehicle’s multimedia units have a specially developed operating system for the automotive industry by Android. Thus, you can perform many tasks in the vehicle that you can do on your phone. With a lowered seating height by 2.8 mm in the front and 1.5 mm in the rear, along with batteries positioned under the vehicle, Porsche engineers have further lowered the center of gravity. They have made every effort to ensure that the Macan’s luxurious interior allows for both comfortable and sporty drives when needed, aiming to make these drives as enjoyable as, if not more enjoyable than, the previous model. While maintaining the driving characteristics with the dual-valve adaptive air suspension found in other Porsche models, they have not neglected to provide comfort when necessary.

The New Macan offers a total luggage capacity of 624 liters, with 540 liters in the rear and an additional 86 liters in the front, providing 136 liters more storage space compared to its predecessor. The Macan utilizes a 100 kWh battery, with a net usable capacity of 95 kWh, and it is equipped with Porsche’s first-time use of the 800V technology. This architecture supports fast charging up to 270 kW, allowing the vehicle’s batteries to be charged up to 80% in just 21 minutes. With a WLTP range of up to 613 kilometers, the New Macan will also have a city range of up to 784 kilometers.

The Macan models, offering power ranging from 408 horsepower to 639 horsepower, will be available with all-wheel drive. The New Macan models, providing torque figures between 650 Nm and 1130 Nm, will have acceleration times ranging from 5.2 seconds to 3.3 seconds for 0-100 kilometers/hour, and maximum speeds between 220-260 kilometers/hour. The new traction control system with a response time of 10 milliseconds and the optionally available electronic differential lock are factors that enhance the driving characteristics of the vehicle. How do you find the New Porsche Macan?
