BMW’s New User Interface Panoramic iDrive Introduced
At the 2025 CES (User Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, BMW unveiled its next-generation iDrive. The new interface, which will be called the panoramic iDrive, has been unveiled with a slim screen located between the A-pillars, a head-up display and an asymmetrical center display.
BMW came up with a design similar to the Panoramic i-Cockpit that Peugeot introduced with the 3008 and 5008 last year. BMW, which positions the screen higher than Peugeot, has 4 arms of normal size, it is not usual to place the arms at a 90-degree angle, it has positioned the screen even higher because it includes a steering wheel. I think it is unnecessary to place a HUD in the front field of view, which has narrowed considerably, when there is already a high screen. While the asymmetrical touch screen in the middle is tiring on the eyes, it is ergonomically useless to have all the controls embedded in a single touch screen. I think it is unnecessary for the thin and distant screen to extend to the front of the passenger. Moving the signal lever and wiper arm, which are currently not used by BMW users, to the steering wheel with touch keys is an extremely illogical move.
Panoramic iDrive, which will take its place in new BMW models from the end of 2025, will come with the BMW OS X operating system, which BMW has developed entirely itself. The new iDrive, which will have features such as detecting the driver’s movements and signaling accordingly through artificial intelligence-supported voice assistant and artificial intelligence, will also allow you to download applications from BMW’s own online store to the center screen, as it is based on Android.
So how do you like the new Panoramic iDrive?
